April 2011 Tournament Results

Greetings fellow CSBA Members! On April 9th CSBA hosted our second club tournament of the 2011 season on Harry S. Truman Reservoir. Looking at the photos you’d swear it was a July tournament! The high on Saturday was in the low 90’s!! As it turns out the bite was hot just like the weather. 11 boats caught a total of 43 fish weighing 101.19 lbs! We had twice the number of fishermen, twice as many fish and twice the weight over our April Truman tournament last year! The 2010 tournament saw only one 4 fish sack weighed in. This year we had 5 four fish sacks and one limit weighed in. Great job everyone!

Most of the 11 teams made it down to pre-fish on Friday the 8th for at least a while. The weather on Friday was a bit more cloudy and not quite as warm, but a beautiful day to be on the water anyway. Air temps were in the 80’s and water temps ranged from the mid 50’s to the low 60’s later in the day. The lack of wind on Friday made the bite a little tougher but everyone was hopeful the forecast higher winds for Saturday would turn the spinner bait and crank bait bite on. For the most part it did! Many reported nice catches on Wiggle Warts fished on 45 degree chunk rock banks.

Saturday morning greeted the anglers with a beautiful sunrise in a cloudless sky and mild temperatures. About an hour or so after take-off the winds started and were howling pretty good by the 4:00 weigh-in. Fortunately, everyone made it back to the State Park ramp with all their dental fillings in place! Although we had an excellent dentist on hand in our tournament sponsor, Brad Gaik of Shoal Creek Dental Care, his services were not needed in that regard today!

Taking the win on Saturday was yours truly, Jeff Wilson. Jeff weighed in a 5 fish limit totaling 15.08 lbs, anchored by two fish over 4 pounds, one of which was the day’s boater big bass, a fat 4.39 lb Truman toad! Jeff caught 6 keepers on the day, culling once late in the afternoon. Jeff caught all his fish in the bluff cuts and steeper coves in the Osage arm on Jigs.

Proving he is a force to be reckoned with, Gary Parker took second place honors on Saturday with an impressive 4 fish bag weighing 10.49 lbs. Gary braved the treacherous run up Big Tebo and got on some nice fish close to deeper water. Nice job Gary!

Finishing out the paying spots in 3rd place was Terry Corum. Always a threat on Truman, Terry weighed in a nice 4 fish sack weighing 9.06 lbs! Terry fished the lower Grand arm with stickbaits to take his near limit. Nice job Terry! That new side imager is paying off!! 

Non-Boater Big Bass went to Rob Milligan for his nice 3.14 lb bass. Good job Rob!

Thanks again to our tournament sponsor, Brad Gaik and Shoal Creek Dental Care.  Please be sure to patron our tournament sponsors whenever possible!
